Thick impasto paint which was used to suggested petals and leaves, similar to the Impressionistic movement. Paint enjoying for paints sake, rather than expressing an image for historical recording, paint was used for the enjoyment of paint where the eye of the beholder would see the whole from a visual spatial distance, where the image would come together from being an abstracted dab and dash of rich colour to a whole literal shape, a flower a plant or a petal.
