This small canvas painting emphasises block shapes and vertical rectangular shapes, pattern being the predominant theme throughout. I always take my own photos, exploring the area, the mood, and atmosphere of the area. Once I have the photo/s I sift through to find the one that pics up the expression best to paint. I often change the photo to become not just a recorded image but to enjoy the expression of the image with paint, making the scene more personal to me and more alive than the photo. Often a photo does not do the expression justice. I find paint brings more life to the image.
Light is an important emphasis in this painting, through the shadowed areas in the painting. Lovely blue greens, and soft complimentary peach oranges are used, with blue greys, creams and sharp whites also.
