This large canvas creates a sense of depth into the South African countryside large open spaces.
The turns in the dusty road emphasise the depth depicted into the distance to enhance the atmosphere of the openness of the countryside.
I created an effect of pattern by using the vertical lines of the tree trunks one next to the other leading into the distance, with the contrast of the more subtle horizontal lines of the shadows from the trees across the dusty pathway.
Complimentary colours of blue greens and orange peach tones are used in an almost abstract expression to emphasise the movement in the leaves of the trees, and the winding dusty road leading one’s eye off into the distance.
Bold textural brush marks are applied through thick impasto techniques with fast loose brush strokes, creating a lively effect of movement.
