This painting captures the night light and strong indoor light reflecting outside through the top rounded glass area of the doors.
Thick impasto loose brush marks create an almost abstract feel emphasising more the paint than the image depicted.
Bold dark lines are used to frame the play on shape repeated throughout the painting in the square shapes in the door, the doors rectangular shapes themselves, and around the quarter circle shapes of the glass area at the top of the doors, which are a beautiful contrast.
The strong use of the peach colour, painted in numerous areas over the canvas in a purposeful manner, yet seemingly loose unthought out manner, emphasises further pattern effect, and boldly highlights the use of lemon yellow to emphasise the strong synthetic light reflected through the glass quarter shapes at the top of the doors. This further adds to the boldness of the painting.
Also texture is used in an almost blotchy technique to emphasise the roughness of the unkept walls beside the doors themselves, and further emphasise the play on shape through colour with texture effect.
