About this piece…
This beautiful little painting is painted from a photo that I took of Jaffa Port. The soft colours create wonderful patterns of verticals and horizontals, square shapes, rectangular shapes and triangular shapes. The tree to the left of the painting adds a further interesting contrast, yet balances the weight of the dark brown building in the front and back left of the painting.
Framing
The sunken frame in white calms the business of the painting and helps lead ones eye into the painting. The outer frame balances the painting further with dark blue which is picked up in the fresh strong blues of the fishing boats. Finally the edge of gold on the outer frame enhances the lovely patterns of yellow ochres, creams and warm soft browns of the buildings and rooftops.
