By using off whites, soft browns and ochre yellows, with touches of blue and sharp white, a wonderful effect of still calm is expressed. Bright lemon yellows and warm ochre yellows are used to draw ones eye from the right detail on the fabrics, to the left of the painting. Blue is used to suggest the diamond shape of the grid pattern to the right of the painting, which is picked up in the holder of the painting in the foreground. Interesting pattern is suggested in the brickwork, yet does not detract from the pattern of the blue, yellow and whites of the fabrics and paintings on sale.
The central figure is subtly suggested in earthy tones, so as not to detract from the pattern effect of the Provincial colours.
