The emphasis in this painting is on texture and pattern. Thick impasto brush marks in peach and cream tints on the top half of the painting, with grey whites beneath on the walls. Using blue greys, with a suggestion of fresh mint green and blue black for the window shutters, all contrast beautifully to create an interesting yet diverse use of colour. Strong pattern is expressed in the painterly dashes of the bricks on the wall. Using mustard yellows to bring energy into the painting in dabs and dashes suggested spontaneously at the top right corner, and the bottom central area softens the vertices and horizontals of the painting.
Pattern is further created with blue black and brown black fan shapes above the door to the right and to the left of the painting.
