A simple theme, with emphasis on pattern and texture. The beauty of this painting is primarily in its simplicity, strong contrasting colours and technique. The thick impasto paint catches ones eye as the strong diagonal of the steps leads ones eye into the depth of the painting. The motivation to paint this painting was due to the dramatic lighting of the Greek Island summer weather, and the obvious blue-white theme of architectural colour expression seen all over Mykonos.
