Emphasis in this painting is on colour and pattern, making use of ochres, warm browns, and soft pinks-browns on the buildings to the left of the painting, are a strong contrast to the white of the arches under the bridge, and little white lines with dark blue on the top of the bridge banister, create wonderful pattern-like effect. The whole scene is softened by the ducks and swans, dappled with impasto white, reds and suggested pinks in still water at different angles suggesting movement.
