The main theme in this painting is pattern, dancing colour reflections in water, with strong vertical patches of colour for each building. This contrasts dramatically with the stillness of the sky. The verticals of each building is yet again softened by the pattern of little dark square and rectangular shapes of the windows. The reflections in the water create an almost impressionistic effect in the water.
