South Africa the most beautiful country I have had the privilege of knowing, having lived there for the first thirty six years of my life. The Drakensburg an area of extreme dramatic beauty. I painted this painting creating the expression of space and red earth of South Africa, with warm yellow ochres, and varying shades of olive greens for the mountain. Using more blue greens for the farthest mountains. The white houses of this country scene create a further dramatic contrast.
In order to keep the feel of earthy, rustic expression, I chose a large solid wood frame with gold and warm red browns to further enhance the painting, together with the gold inner part of the frame, which picks up the rich warm yellow ochres of the land.
